Meet Pastor Davis

The youngest of 10 children, Pastor Davis was raised in a Christian home and under the admonition and fear of the Lord.  He has been ingrained with the qualities and characteristics of one who fears and reverences the Almighty God.  Pastor Davis comes from a long lineage of preachers, deacons, and a Christian oriented family.  He is married to Angela (Neal) Davis and to this union the Lord has blessed them with seven (7) children.

Pastor Davis’s educational achievements includes certificate in Paralegal Studies at Roosevelt University; Bachelor of Arts degree in Theological Studies from Chicago Baptist Institute; Master of Arts degree in New Testament Theological Studies from Faith Evangelical College and Seminary in Tacoma, Washington.  Currently, Pastor Davis has taken courses towards his Doctor of Ministry degree in New Testament Theological Studies from Faith Evangelical College and Seminary and is currently working toward pursuing his Doctor of Divinity Degree.

Pastor Davis music ministry began at the age of 11 years.  Being trained in Piano and Organ to serve as the Sunday School musician at his home church, New Zion City M.B. Church, Chicago, Illinois, he eventually served as the assistant church musician.  Attending John Marshall High School, Pastor Davis was heavily involved in the High School Orchestra and was professionally trained in the Violin and Viola.  Serving as Minister of Music at the Saint John Baptist Temple Church in Chicago and Director of Worship for the Greater Shiloah District Association, Pastor Davis facilitated and provided leadership in various workshops, vocal training and music seminars.  As a certified Instructor with the Sunday School Publishing Board, Pastor Davis facilitated various instructional sessions in Worship, the Ministry of Music and various other Christian Education and Leadership classes.

Pastor Davis accepted his call into the Ministry on September 1, 1996 and preached his first sermon at the Saint John Baptist Temple Church under the leadership of Pastor C.M. Newton, Jr. and ordained on December 10, 2000 as the Assistant to the Pastor.  February 2002, Pastor Davis accepted the position of Assistant Pastor of the Solid Rock M.B. Church where his father Rev. Louis Davis, Jr. served as Pastor.  On Sunday, June 5, 2005, Pastor Louis Davis, Jr. officially retired as Pastor of the Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church and made a recommendation that his youngest son, Rev. Benjamin E. Davis succeed him as Pastor.

After 36 years of faithful service, on Sunday, October 2, 2010, Pastor C. Milton Newton, Jr. announced to the congregation of Saint John Baptist Temple Church, his retirement as Pastor.  His recommendation to the congregation was that his son in the ministry, Pastor Benjamin E. Davis would succeed him as pastor.  Through much fasting and praying, it was unanimously agreed among the Solid Rock church family that they would unite with the Saint John Temple church family to continue to carry out the great commission that Jesus has left for the Church.  In October 2020, the Historic Christ Way M.B. Church founded by the late Rev. Mother Consuella York united with the Saint John Baptist Temple Church.

Understanding the importance of holistic ministry, Pastor Davis is involved in various community, civic and religious organizations that are designed to make a positive impact upon the lives of the people.  Pastor Davis believes that a church within the community that is not involved in the community is an ineffective church.

In 2019, through the vision of Pastor Davis and the collaboration of the University of Chicago Law Department, the Saint John Temple Community Development Corporation was established.  To expand the assignment that God has given Pastor Davis, to meet the needs of the people in an holistic way, the Cottage Grove Corridor Project has been realized.  To meet the needs of the Community and establish an effective presence within the community, we are in the process of developing a Senior Home Facility, Community Resource Center, Partnership with the University of Chicago, Chicago State University and other Community organizations.

Pastor Davis has continued to expand and impress upon the hearts of the people the importance of effective ministry and the vision that God has divinely given him.  Pastor Davis has taken on the challenge to make a difference within the church and the community by re-instructing, re-building and restoring the Kingdom of God through sacred worship, sincere witness and spiritual warfare.
